Dr. Gina Adam, an assistant professor in ECE is the principal investigator on this grant. GWU received $300,000 from ONR and has as subaward Western Digital Corporation. Our other collaborator, NIST Gaithersburg is funded from DARPA via interagency agreement for $150,000. The overarching goal of the project is to use decomposition techniques to stabilize the training of novel neural networks and reduce the hardware overhead in neuromorphic systems. With this approach, emerging analog memory devices can be used despite their imperfections, bringing this new technology closer to deployment in advanced neural network training accelerators.
Dr. Gina Adam with collaborators from NIST and WD have received a one-year ONR/DARPA grant
