Dr. Roger Lang has received a three-year $360,000 grant from the Army Research Office (ARO) to investigate ultra high frequency (UHF) propagation in mountainous environments. Microwave links that have no line-of-sight propagation path can nevertheless communicate. Waves are reflected from tree covered mountainsides. In a joint effort with the Army Cold Region Research and Electronic Labs, Dr. Lang will use his forest models to understand how tree covered mountainsides can reflect UHF signals.
