Prof. Zaghloul and collaborators secure a $2 million competitive award

January 28, 2016

Professor Mona Zaghloul and her collaborators, Professor  Zhenyu Li (BMI, PI), and Professor Dinesh Pillai (Children's National and GW SMHS) in secure a $2,016,588 competitive Award. The award duration is for four years and titled “Ambulatory Sensor Arrays for Real-Life Monitoring of Pediatric Patients with Asthma". This work aims to develop wearable and handheld sensor systems for collecting real-life environmental, physiological and behavioral data, which will enable the rigorous testing of hypotheses on environmental contributions to the causation of pediatric asthma exacerbations.  Professor Zaghloul will design sensors and will integrate electronics to monitor the child daily life and collect real-life environmental data. This work capitalizes on recent collaboration and Patent between Professor Zaghloul, and Professor Zhenyu Li on developing Wearable Sensors and Electronics. This award is a good example of the collaborative spirit of SEAS faculty and how much we can achieve together when we work at the intersection of research disciplines. It also shows how ECE can provide a fundamental platform for many challenging issues across the University.
