Dear Friends:

Though COVID-19 continues to disrupt normal life, we were happy to welcome our students back to campus this fall and return to some semblance of normalcy. What we have learned during the pandemic is how quickly we can adapt to the changing environment.

Happily, the pandemic has not slowed our department down, and our faculty and students continue to accomplish great things. Our faculty have been elected Fellows of professional societies, started new ventures, won prestigious awards and honors, and secured several sponsored research grants. Our sponsored research expenditures for FY 2021 exceeded $5M for the second straight year, a three-fold increase from just 5 years ago.
